Review

I feel like I'm ranting.
What was I talking about? Ah, yes. Okay, the plot of Alone in the Dark is so-so. It's a fine idea but probably too convoluted. The writers don't have much of a track record, and it's legendary director probably paid a couple of his chums to write it. It's not directed particularly well by Uwe Boll, but, honestly, it's not that bad either. Star, Christian Slater was riding a dying wave at this point in his career, but is his usual watchable self, and Stephen Dorff is as good as he has ever been here. Which is about all you can say for Tara Reid as well. By far the worse aspect of the film, and a weighty drag on it too. Not that her character is well rounded.
All in, it's not an unwatchable action, horror. It may have bastardized the source material, but I didn't play it. There's better, sure, but there's also worse.
