Hellfest (2018)

A masked serial killer turns a horror-themed amusement park into his own personal playground, terrorizing a group of friends while the rest of the patrons believe that it is all part of the show.

Gregory Plotkin (Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension) does a reasonably good job with what he's given here. In fact everyone does. I'm a little lost with how there were six writers on a film with no plot. Literally. Teens go to Hell Fest and bloke gets real stabby. Run around. Scream. Pretty much it. That said, it is pretty good. Everyone is trying, and it falls into the slasher genre well.

It doesn't side step any tropes, but it doesn't try to.

The cast do a good job. I'm writing this review a month after seeing the film, and the member of the cast who still stuck in my was Bex Taylor-Klaus (The Last Witch Hunter) so I guess that's a stand out. But no one was bad in it, and that's a good thing for a slasher. (Don't be fooled by the marketing though, legend Tony Todd is not really in it. It's an extended cameo)

It's not a scary film, as such, no more than any slasher I suppose, but it is well made, there are some nice kills, but overall it had a real Scream vibe to it. It's worth watching for a scary night in, but doesn't break new ground in any way.
